Meeting Milestones Together: Celebrating Powerful Partnerships

In one way or another, everyone relies on others for support. Take food banks, which support communities by helping everyone to get the nourishment they need. Facing a record level of demand — nearly 2.2 million visits each month — food banks need support, too. Food Banks Canada is there to help get more food into the food bank network, strengthen it to meet high levels of need, and advocate for systemic changes that promise to turn the tide on food insecurity.

Since 2010, Food Banks Canada has shared over $1 billion in food support to Canada’s food bank network, and over $275 million in funding for priority areas such as food security in the North, emergency responses, and food bank capacity.

Food Banks Canada, in turn, needs support from our generous and committed partners, who share our mission of relieving hunger today and preventing hunger tomorrow. It’s because we’re not going it alone that we can make a meaningful impact together and envision a Canada where nobody goes hungry.

“We’re so thankful to the organizations that have stepped forward to help support our neighbours in need through our mission,” says Kirstin Beardsley, CEO of Food Banks Canada. “Thank you for championing food banks and the important work they do. During these uncertain times when so many people are struggling to get by, our partnerships are even more vital than ever.”

Longstanding Partner Milestones

Food Banks Canada celebrates partners who have achieved special milestones in their work with us. We extend our Longstanding Partner recognition to those who have been supporting our mission year after year, and who have reached a notable anniversary. Their lasting commitment helps us make long-term plans with strategy and confidence, and we look forward to growing these valued partnerships even further.

Backed by more than 1,295 Canadian egg farmers and farm families, Egg Farmers of Canada has long been dedicated to supporting food banks, including those in remote Northern locations. Their ongoing donations of millions of fresh eggs to Food Banks Canada allow food banks across the country to provide this nutritious, protein-packed and versatile staple.

As part of its Fill Your Tank programEnterprise Mobility has made a visionary commitment through 2030 to finding and advocating for the long-term solutions needed to end hunger in Canada. Their ongoing support is expanding our research capabilities, supporting Northern communities struggling with disproportionately high food insecurity rates, funding innovation in the food banking sphere, and enabling the ongoing core work of Food Banks Canada.

iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance) is a major Canadian financial institution, founded in 1892, that provides life/health insurance, wealth management, and retirement services to over four million clients. Since 2021, they have invested in Food Banks Canada as part of a broad philanthropic program that supports education, community development, the environment, and health across Canada.

KPMG Canada is the sole sponsor of The National Tax Clinic Program, which provides free tax return clinics in collaboration with local food banks across Canada. The goal of this program is to move people into a better financial position through a range of financial supports, including improved access to benefits and tax credits. It can result in dramatic changes in financial circumstances, to the point where a household’s need for the food bank might be reduced or eliminated. reduced or eliminated.

Kraft Heinz Canada donates almost two million pounds of nutritious food to Canada’s food bank network annually. It’s delivered at regular intervals throughout the year, which means food banks can rely on a consistent supply of specific high-demand food items to give to community members in need. The clients of food banks benefit from this consistency as well, because it allows them to plan meals and decide how best to use their limited grocery budgets.

Twice a year, through its long-standing collaboration with Food Banks Canada, Loblaw Companies Limited activates its Loblaw Feed More Families™ Food Drive in participating Loblaw banner stores from coast to coast to coast. This critical effort helps to provide millions of meals to communities across Canada. In addition to its leadership in fundraising, Loblaw contributes year-round through its participation in Food Banks Canada’s Retail Food Program. By recovering surplus food and essential household items from local stores and redistributing them to nearby food banks, Loblaw helps reduce food waste while strengthening local communities.

Northbridge Financial Corporation is a leading commercial property and casualty insurance company that supports food security because access to food is a basic need and a foundation for healthy, strong communities. Their contributions strengthen Food Banks Canada’s support for underserved Northern communities, our Emergency Response program that provides ready-to-eat meals for communities affected by natural disasters, our summertime nutrition program for schoolchildren in need, and our general mission to relieve and prevent hunger in Canada.

The RBC Foundation has provided significant support to Food Banks Canada’s food-transformation and agriculture-recovery work. By acquiring valuable farm food that would otherwise go to waste, and investing in the capacity for practical steps to make it “food-bank ready” — such as washing, bagging, and freezing — we are building a resilient food bank network that improves access to highly nutritious food across Canada.

Subway® Canada donates a portion of the proceeds from its annual Never Miss Lunch® program to Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell initiative, which delivers nutritious food to kids in need during the summer months when many school-based food programs are closed. As After the Bell’s Fresh Food Sponsor, Subway Canada provides grants for food banks to add fresh fruits and vegetables to food packs; this helps to ensure the packs are balanced and nutritious. Now in its eighth year of partnership with Food Banks Canada, Subway Canada has helped provide over a million food packs to hundreds of communities across the country.

Every year, Walmart Canada partners with Food Banks Canada and executes the signature annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change campaign in Walmart stores across the country and online. The campaign has helped generate millions of meals for food banks across the country, making a meaningful difference for individuals and families when they need it most. Beyond fundraising, Walmart is a longstanding participant in Food Banks Canada’s Retail Food Program, a food-recovery program that directs surplus food and essential household items from stores and supply chain facilities to local food banks.

Shared Commitment, Shared Vision

The work of Food Banks Canada and the food bank network is made possible by the generosity and dedication of an extraordinary community of partners. Because of their commitments, millions of families across Canada can face each day with less worry about their next meal and have more hope for the future. Whether they’re contributing food, funds, services, expertise, infrastructure, or other crucial resources, we are deeply grateful to walk alongside our partners on this journey. Together, we will continue to build on these milestones and advance our shared vision of a Canada where everyone can access the food they need to thrive.
