What is the difference in donating to Food Banks Canada compared to my local food bank?

Supporting your local food bank is a meaningful way to make a difference in your community. Food Banks Canada supports your local food bank, too – along with over 5,500 food banks and community organizations across the country.

As you can imagine, getting enough food is a huge challenge, so local food banks count on our help. As a national-level organization, Food Banks Canada is uniquely positioned to secure and distribute large-scale donations of quality food across the country, based on local levels of need.

We also provide funding, services and resources to help food banks operate more effectively and serve more people in need. Examples include safe food-handling training, refrigeration infrastructure, and support for community-led solutions to hunger in underserved places such as the North.

Our work goes beyond responding to hunger today.  Food Banks Canada leads the collective efforts to advance government policy changes needed to reduce food insecurity.

By supporting Food Banks Canada, you’re strengthening food banks and community organizations from coast to coast to coast, while helping to drive change for a future in Canada where no one goes hungry.

Can I designate my donation to a particular food bank location?

Donations made to Food Banks Canada supports national programs that help food banks across the country, not a specific food bank.
