Food Banks Canada works tirelessly to counter food insecurity and its root causes. We work from coast to coast to coast to maximize the efforts of more than 5,500 food banks and community organizations by investing in their work and offering support at a national level.

As part of our mission, we also form partnerships within the food industry to capture and distribute food that might otherwise go to waste, research food insecurity and advocate for long term policy change.

Our Vision

A Canada where no one goes hungry

Our Mission

To relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow

Our Long Term Goals

Encourage governments to implement evidence-informed policies that significantly reduce food insecurity in Canada

A stable, nutritious food supply for all food banks across the country

Community-led solutions for sustainable access to food in Northern Canada

A food banking system is stable, resilient, and responsive to changing needs and emergencies

Our Three Areas of Focus

In order to achieve these long-term goals, we focus on three key areas. These define the broad focus of our work, and represent the key ways we seek to drive change.

Increasing Food Supply

We work to ensure Canada’s national food banking network is consistently stocked by acquiring, transforming and distributing food.

Food Bank Network Support and Enhancement

We work with provincial and territorial associations, food banks, and community organizations, to facilitate and fund initiatives that strengthen the national food bank network.

Advocacy & Awareness

We strive to amplify grassroots and national advocacy efforts to enhance the public perception of food banks, and influence policy decisions.

Strategic Priorities

Priority 1

Leading & Mobilizing For Change

Priority 2

Strengthening the Food Bank Network to Meet Demand

Priority 3

Improving Access Where It’s Needed Most

Special projects

Food Banks Canada is more than just food. We also undertake special projects to address shortages of other critically needed items.

Menstrual Equity Fund

Menstrual products are a basic need. That’s why we’re working with Women and Gender Equality Canada to address period poverty in Canada.
