Why do we work tirelessly to end food insecurity in Canada? Because we believe that hunger is solvable. In the meantime, we’ll stay focused on maximizing collective impact, strengthening local capacity, and reducing the overall need for food banks until they are no longer needed.

WHY GIVE

Not everyone across Canada has access to nutritious food. People are struggling with food insecurity, which limits their ability to live a high-quality, full, and healthy life. We need to stop this inequity and make healthy, nutritious food accessible for everyone from coast to coast to coast. At the same time, we need to solve the root causes of hunger that lead to far too many people in Canada being food insecure.

WHY NOW

People in Canada are using food banks more frequently than ever before. But despite the increase in demand, we cannot afford to lose sight of the bigger problem. Which is why we require additional investments now to enable us to support the increasing need for access to food, while keeping the momentum in our advocacy work to address the root causes of food insecurity in this country.

Food Banks Canada supports all people living in this country by helping local food banks to meet the demand. By leveraging our purchasing power and national relationships, we’re able to get food to an entire network of food-serving agencies and organizations from coast to coast to coast. Our focus on solving the long-term food insecurity problem in Canada, along with providing the right help, unique to each community, is further supported by our proactive research, unwavering advocacy, and national awareness-raising work.
