We are always interested in hearing more about the individuals in food banking across Canada! This month, our spotlight is on Chantal Senecal, Executive Director of Food Depot Alimentaire in Moncton, New Brunswick.
What is your role in food banking?
My role as Executive Director for the Food Depot Alimentaire is to oversee programming and ensure best practices in the food distribution warehouse for New-Brunswick food banks, as well as overall operations of the Peter McKee Community food centre which includes a food bank, educational programing, a thrift store, a community garden and community kitchen.

What was your inspiration to get involved in food banking?
I’ve always had a passion for people and community, and saw a great need in food security, and also great opportunity to help and create something different.
What is your greatest achievement in your current role?
The planning, development and opening of the Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
What is your greatest challenge in your current role?
I think my greatest challenge, is prioritizing and focusing on one area at a time.
If you could have one wish granted that would address hunger in Canada what would it be?
Basic Income.
Which talent would you most like to have?
The will power to stay away from junk food.
If you could tell your younger self advice, what would it be?
You need to take care of yourself in order to give your best to others.
Who are your heroes? Fictional or real life
My parents, and if I had to pick a fictional it would be Wonder Woman.
What is your idea of happiness?
That it’s a choice, not a destination. Happiness is made of moments, so live within them whenever possible.
What is your motto?
Live for the moment, but take conscious steps for the future.
Something quirky about you that others may not expect or know?
I find I have a funny laugh.

Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G.…only because I did a quiz one time and that’s what they said, so it must be true!
