Strategic Priorities
Here are the steps we’re taking.
No one in Canada should go hungry. Yet across the country, food banks are facing unprecedented and unsustainable demand. Urgent action is needed to reduce the number of people turning to food banks and strengthen the food bank network.
PRIORITY 1. Leading & Mobilizing for Change
Reduce food insecurity by 50% by 2030 through collective action and policy change.
Drive meaningful systemic change
Our goal: Harness the collective power of the food bank network and those it serves to advocate for pragmatic government policy solutions that address immediate need and systemic challenges.
Change the conversation & elevate the cause
Our goal: Redefine how food insecurity is understood. Inspire people in Canada to join a movement ensuring everyone can access food today while building a better future for all.
PRIORITY 2. Strengthening the Food Bank Network to Meet Demand
Enable a modern, resilient food bank system that is healthy, cohesive, efficient, and adaptable.
Lead the evolution of food banking
Our goal: Equip the food bank network to adapt to changing realities so everyone in Canada can access nutritious food when needed.
Ensure a reliable food supply for all
Our goal: Increase the availability of nutritious food through stronger partnerships, optimized processes, and improved infrastructure.
PRIORITY 3. Improving Access Where It’s Needed Most
Ensure sustainable, community-led food access for underserved communities.
Address food insecurity in Northern communities
Our goal: Collaborate with Indigenous and Northern communities to develop sustainable, community-led food access initiatives.
Meet food needs in underserved communities
Our goal: Identify and address food access gaps resulting from physical, cultural, geographic and systemic barriers, with data-informed, targeted solutions.
Tracking Our Progress
How will we know when our strategy is paying off?
When we see:
- A decrease in the Food Insecurity Rate
- An increase in food provided into the food bank network through direct or sponsored programs
- An increase in investments for community-led solutions that result in sustainable access to nutritious food in underserved communities
