Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Campaign – Make a Difference in Your Local Communities

1.7 million Canadians turned to a food bank last year.

Join Walmart Canada and Food Banks Canada in making a difference in the lives of those experiencing hunger in Canada through Walmart Canada’s second annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign.

Last year’s campaign generated 8 million meals in support of food banking across Canada. This year’s goal is to reach 10 million meals!

The campaign will run from April 5th to May 2nd in Walmart stores across the country.
Walmart Canada’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign offers three simple ways you can take action in helping a local food bank: purchase  participating products, donate at the register or drop off food donations in-store.

1. Purchase Participating Products

With a purchase of a select product between April 5 – May 2, 2018, online or in-store from participating brand partners, a donation will be made to Food Banks Canada1.

Participating brand partners joining together for “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” include our Guiding Partners: Ferrero Canada, General Mills, PepsiCo, Kellogg’s Canada and Champion Partners: Kraft Heinz, Mars, Lassonde, Old Dutch, Starbucks, Unilever, Maple Leaf and Mondelez.

2. Donate at the Register

You have the opportunity to round-up your purchases at the register to the nearest dollar from April 5 to April 27, 2018 and donate the difference.

All donations will be matched by Walmart Canada in support of your local food bank2.

These donations help your local food bank better serve those experiencing hunger in your community.  With these funds your local food banks can purchase perishable products like dairy, protein and vegetables when they need them, buy gas for their trucks or, make capital investments like shelving or forklifts to ensure their warehouses run effectively.

3. Drop-Off Food Donations

Walmart Canada stores will also be accepting non-perishable food donations for local food banks. Look for a donation bin at the front of each store and consider purchasing these nutritious food options to include when dropping off your donations.

Walmart’s Commitment to Hunger in Canada

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are working together to address food waste and food insecurity by supporting the work of the food bank network in Canada.  Walmart stores have donated over 11 million pounds of surplus food to food banks across the country since 2012.

The food diversion program pairs Walmart stores with a local food bank to ensure surplus food is donated to local food banks. Walmart Canada has also donated more than $6.4 million since 2011 to Food Banks Canada and Walmart Foundation invested close to $6 million to build capacity in the food bank network- from trucks, new refrigerators, and staff resources to ensure food is safely and properly distributed to those who need it most.
