Food Banker Spotlight – Terri Smith

We are always interested in hearing more about the individuals in food banking across Canada! This month, our spotlight is on Terri Smith, Operations Manager at Moose Jaw and District Food Bank.

What is your role in food banking?
I started working at the food bank in August of 2003 as the driver and worked my way up to the Operations Manager.  

What are your pronouns?
She/Her  

Describe a typical day in one word. 
Exciting!  

What was your inspiration to get involved in food banking?
To break the stigma around food banks.  

What is your greatest achievement in your current role?
Being apart of purchasing a new to us building and structuring it to suit our growing needs. I am so grateful to have worked with so many wonderful staff and volunteers over the years. they carry so much passion for helping their community and are always there to help. I have gained so much knowledge from them all.  

What is your greatest challenge in your current role?
Being part of purchasing a new to us building and adapting to our new space and how we now operate.  We have grown so much in the past couple years. It has been both overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. Loving every minute of it.

If you could have one wish granted that would address hunger in Canada, what would it be?
For everyone to have a support system and not to have to rely on food banks to survive. We are all in this together. Let’s help everyone up.  

Which talent would you most like to have?
The knowledge of Everything  

If you could tell your younger self advice, what would it be?
Slow down and take a breath.  

Who are your heroes? 
Fictional or real life My parents and my family  

What is your idea of happiness?
Spending time with my family and travelling to new places.  

What is your motto?
It could always be worse.

Somethings are to be kept to myself!!
