Feeding more families than ever before

As part of its commitment to “Feed More Families,” Loblaw Companies Limited is marking 15 years of biannual food drives in support of local food banks in communities across the country.

Since 2009, Loblaw and Food Banks Canada have teamed up for the Spring & Holiday Feed More Families™ Food Drives, with more than $3.4 million in funds and 2.6 million pounds of food being collected in 2023 alone.

“Food bank usage is at an all-time high; among the growing numbers are people who are visiting food banks for the first time and many who simply don’t have enough left over at the end of every month to buy enough food for themselves and their families,” shared Kirstin Beardsley, Chief Executive Officer, Food Banks Canada. “It is this relentless demand that makes us so appreciative to Loblaw for our longstanding partnership and ongoing community support offered. For 15 years the Loblaw Spring Food Drive has been providing much-needed donations of food and funds to the food bank community across Canada. We are extremely grateful to Loblaw for this historical support, and ongoing commitment, especially at such a critical time. Thank you, Loblaw, and all the store employees and customers who support this important campaign that help us to work toward our goal of a Canada where no one goes hungry.”

“I deeply appreciate the work done by our partner Food Banks Canada in trying to put food on the tables of thousands of individuals and families across Canada. Together, we are raising sizable funds and poundage of food to feed more families. We’re happy to see the 2023 results and look forward to supporting the upcoming Feed More Families Spring Food Drive,” said Emma Race, Senior Director, Sustainability and Social Impact at Loblaw.

Every contribution counts

From March 15 to April 2, 2024 in support of the food banks across Canada, Canadians can donate most-needed, non-perishable food items in-store at the food donation bin at the front of the stores or make a monetary donation at checkout wherever President’s Choice products are sold.

  • Fundraising campaign: Support will be collected in the form of monetary donations at the register upon checkout. Loblaw will be matching donations up to $100,000.
  • Food drive campaign: Food donation bins will be available for in-store food collection for the duration of the campaign.

One hundred percent of food and cash donations collected by stores will be directed to the local community food bank.

Here are some of the items that food banks need most:

  • Whole grain foods like oatmeal, barley, high-fibre cereals or whole-grain pasta
  • Lean proteins from foods like canned fish and meat; plant proteins like peanut butter, beans, and lentils
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Milk alternatives like shelf-stable milk, powdered milk, almond milk, and rice milk
