Groceries for Good: How Kraft Heinz Brings a Dependable Supply of In-Demand Products to Food Banks

In the midst of soaring needs, Food Banks Canada has been able to distribute millions of pounds of shelf-stable food staples across the nationwide network of 5,100 food banks and community agencies. This impressive feat couldn’t have happened without Kraft Heinz Canada’s Groceries for Good program.

Every year, this program has the potential to provide up to two million meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, who currently make up approximately one in four people in Canada.

For 2024’s Groceries for Good campaign, Kraft Heinz will pledge a meal to Food Banks Canada each time a customer buys a participating product* at a Canadian grocery store or e-commerce platform between September 22 and October 31.

Kraft Heinz is a proud partner in Food Banks Canada’s Pledged Production program, which means it provides the food contributions pledged during the Groceries for Good campaign at a steady pace throughout the entire year. This reliability allows food banks to plan their food purchases better and ensure they always have a consistent supply for our neighbours in need.

“Week after week, we were seeing clients line up outside our door, hours before we opened. People, like Susan with her two children, would wait in the rain or snow to make sure she could get what items she needed before we ran out. If we have a reliable and consistent stream of donated products, we can plan our limited financial resources, and our clients can plan their lives.”

– Jessie Chiu, Food Services Team Manager, Kerr Street Mission, Oakville, Ontario

Food Banks Alberta, a provincial association of over 100 food banks, greatly appreciates the Groceries for Good program as demand reaches new all-time highs

“We are immensely grateful for the generosity of Kraft Heinz quarter by quarter, year by year. Your commitment to produce products for donation has allowed Food Banks Alberta in turn to commit to our members a steady source of staple goods that is highly appreciated as the surge of food insecurity rises. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!”

– Franciska Riehl, Network Manager, Food Banks Alberta

Overall, Kraft Heinz has generously committed to donating $20 million worth of food over five years, to fight hunger and help ensure that all Canadians have access to nutritious meals.

“As a company with products in so many Canadian pantries, we feel that it is our responsibility to play a role in addressing food insecurity,” says Simon Laroche, president of Kraft Heinz Canada. “We remain committed to supporting communities across the nation, and our partnership with Food Banks Canada helps us increase food distribution in the Canadian food bank system and directly impact those who need our support the most.”
