Partner milestones: A celebration of contributions and collaboration

Collectively, Canada’s network of over 5,500 food banks and related community organizations will receive over two million visits this month. That’s a historic high, but thankfully, food banks are not facing this challenge alone. The support of Food Banks Canada’s partners has never been more crucial, and there couldn’t be a more fitting moment to recognize the milestones in their commitment to relieving hunger today and preventing it tomorrow.

On behalf of Food Banks Canada, the food-bank network and the clients it serves, a heartfelt thank you to the organizations that support our work. Together over the years, our partners have provided over a billion meals to people in need!

In 2023-24 alone, they helped Food Banks Canada to distribute over $104 million worth of food throughout the country, while investing millions more in building the capacity of the food-banking network and addressing the root causes of food insecurity.

Longstanding Partnerships

This program recognizes the partners that have been supporting Food Banks Canada’s mission for multiple consecutive years, to the point of reaching a notable milestone anniversary. Their remarkable loyalty empowers us to plan strategically to increase our impact over time, and we are grateful to continue building these valuable collaborations.

Celebrating 25 consecutive years of partnership with Food Banks Canada in 2024 is Egg Farmers of Canada. Their unwavering generosity has been nothing short of transformative for countless people in Canada.

Egg Farmers of Canada, backed by more than 1,200 Canadian egg farmers and farm families from coast to coast, has been dedicated to supporting food banks across the country, including those in remote northern locations. In 2024, for example, they donated close to 4 million fresh, local eggs and almost 500 kilograms of powdered eggs to Food Banks Canada, allowing food banks across the country to provide this nutritious, protein-packed and versatile staple.

We’re equally grateful to the following multi-year partners, who have each shown long-term dedication to helping communities thrive:

Contribution Milestones

Food Banks Canada is very fortunate to have partners who make a huge impact. This program recognizes those that have achieved milestone contribution levels with their cumulative giving.

We celebrate them for having enabled many millions of meals* on tables across Canada over the years, and for helping to keep the shelves of food banks stocked for those in need of nourishment and hope.

Since 2017, Walmart Canada has partnered with Food Banks Canada to execute an annual Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign in Walmart stores across the country. So far, this campaign has generated over 100 million meals for Canada’s food-banking network. Walmart is also one of the founding partners of our Retail Food Program, which provides an ongoing stream of nutritious food donations to local food banks. Altogether, Walmart’s contributions have helped to provide over 500 million meals to our neighbours in need: an astounding milestone!

Another one of our transformational partners is Loblaw Companies Limited, which supports our mission through Feed More Families, a national, biannual food and fund drive. They also contribute to our Retail Food Program and our National Food Sharing System. Last but not least, they support our Emergency Food Access and Capacity Grants: sources of additional food supplies and capacity investments to help food banks keep up with soaring demand. In total, these contributions amount to the equivalent of more than 400 million meals!

We’re also deeply thankful to the following exceptionally impactful organizations:

As part of its Fill Your Tank program, Enterprise Mobility has made a 10-year commitment to finding and advocating for the long-term solutions needed to end hunger in Canada. Their ongoing support expands our research capabilities, supports Northern communities, funds innovation and enables our ongoing core work.

Kellogg’s has supported Food Banks Canada since 2007, donating more than $4 million to a variety of programs, along with a steady supply of products. Its successor companies carry on this legacy: Kellanova Canada Inc. continues providing delicious snacks and sponsoring our After the Bell program, while WK Kellogg continues to provide cereals and financial contributions to food banks across Canada.

Kraft Heinz Canada donates almost 2 million pounds of nutritious food to the food-bank network annually. It’s delivered at regular intervals throughout the year, which means that community members in need can count on a steady supply of specific, high-demand items.

Tax clinics supported by KPMG in Canada return millions to low-income individuals in Canada. In collaboration with the network of food banks and provincial associations, and with increased funding and volunteer support from our corporate sponsor, KPMG in Canada, we have doubled the number of free tax return clinics included in the program from two to four and upgraded software to help more people access the benefits they deserve.

Nestle Canada Inc. runs multiple activations across their brands, donates product and has sponsored After the Bell since 2019. Nestle also donates to Food Banks Canada for every consumer survey completed.

Over many years, PepsiCo has run multiple activations across their brands, donating in-kind product for our National Food Sharing System. They’re also proud sponsors of the After the Bell program.

Subway Canada is our After the Bell program’s Fresh Food Partner. Participating food banks receive a grant to add fresh fruits and vegetables to the snack packs delivered to children in need throughout the summer, when school-based nutrition programs are unavailable.

With support from The Rossy Foundation, we’re helping to expand and upgrade food-bank services to reach each and every person who needs them. That’s a priority because our research shows that despite growing demand for food banks, millions of people across Canada need food support but face barriers to access.

One-third of The Slaight Family Foundation’s donations goes to food-bank grants, including support for northern communities. Another third supports initiatives like turning donated lentils into soup mixes and rescuing surplus carrots. The remaining funds strengthen our Emergency Food Pack program, providing ready-to-eat meals for disaster relief.

Thomas Large and Singer (TLS) is a dedicated partner of Food Banks Canada, supporting our After the Bell program annually. Additionally, through their warehousing solutions arm, they donate food that would otherwise go to waste, ensuring instead that it goes to people who need it.

Walmart Foundation makes ongoing investments in food security through Food Banks Canada. Their latest round of grants is helping us to build new partnerships and carry out important research initiatives led by people with lived experience of food insecurity – including racialized communities – to understand their barriers and challenges.

Joining Forces for a Shared Vision

The work of Food Banks Canada and the food-bank network is possible only because of the efforts of a community that includes staff, volunteers, fundraisers, donors, advocates, policymakers, foundations and corporations.

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners and achieving even greater milestones in the years to come. Because of their commitment and contributions, millions of families experience less stress about their next meal and can focus instead on taking hopeful steps for the future.

Together, we will keep advancing our shared vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.

*Leveraging our relationships and the strength of our partnerships with food banks, corporations and commodity groups, Food Banks Canada is able to provide 2 meals for every $1 contribution.
