If you share a passion for addressing food insecurity and wish to help set and execute a national strategy that will have a lasting impact on the lives of Canadians, we invite you to bring your energy and talents to the role of Chief Development & Partnerships Officer (CDPO) at Food Banks Canada.

About Food Banks Canada

We are a national charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadians living with food insecurity. Food Banks Canada supports a unique network of over 4,700 food-related organizations in every province and territory that works to support the 1.3 million visits they see to their food banks each month. Together, the network shares over 350 million pounds of essential, safe, quality food annually, provides social programs that help to foster self-sufficiency, and advocates for policy change that will help create a Canada where no one goes hungry. As visits to food banks increased by over 20 per cent throughout the global pandemic, Food Banks Canada expanded its food and fundraising programs substantially, sharing over $99 million in funding and 63 million pounds of food (worth $165M) with the food bank network last year alone.

The Opportunity:

As Food Banks Canada prepares to launch its new strategic plan, the organization wishes to recruit an accomplished Chief Development & Partnerships Officer (CDPO) to its executive team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDPO leads and oversees a highly effective team of 20 (via 3 direct reports) in the development and execution of fundraising strategies, partnership development, and food acquisition and distribution. As the senior fundraising executive within the organization, the CDPO works alongside the executive team to develop and execute on the strategic direction of the organization and implements long- term fundraising and food raising strategies, while purposefully engaging and involving constituents and partners in strategic activities for the mutual benefit of all. This CDPO role presents an opportunity to work with food banks across the country as well as create, retain, and expand partnerships with some of the top retailers and companies globally.

About You:

As an ideal candidate, you are an aspirational and highly strategic fundraising “generalist” with a strong background in building partnerships, including a deep understanding of activation design, cause marketing, ESG, and CSR with large, complex organizations. With outstanding communications skills and considerable knowledge and experience on the dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving, cause marketing, and sponsorship/partnership activation strategy, you are a strategic systems thinker. As a leader, you show empathy, empower staff, and are as committed to their success as to your own. Colleagues would describe you as creative, agile, and innovative, with exceptional diplomacy, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills. You share a passion for Food Banks Canada’s mission and, as a leader, are motivated to create and sustain a transparent, collaborative, and partnership-focused organizational culture. Experience navigating a federated environment or building cohesion among diverse stakeholder groups would be an asset, as is membership in or a designation from a professional fundraising/partnership association, and bilingualism (English and French). This will be a home-based position; however, it is preferred that you be located within a 100km radius of Toronto.
