Food Banker Spotlight – Peter Sinclair, Loaves and Fishes Food Bank

We are always interested in hearing more about the individuals in food banking across Canada! This month, our spotlight is on Peter Sinclair from Loaves and Fishes Food Bank in Nanaimo, BC.

What is your role in food banking?
I am the Executive Director of Loaves and Fishes Food Bank in Nanaimo BC 

Describe a typical day in one word.
Awesome. 

What was your inspiration to get involved in food banking?
We are blessed to be a blessing. Working in a food bank allows me to use by abilities for the benefit of others.   

What is your greatest achievement in your current role?
Coming up with a Metallica inspired “Feed ‘em All” t-shirt design. 

What is the greatest challenge in your current role?
Keeping my focus on what’s most important. There are hundreds of things I could be doing. At any one moment I get to pick one.   

If you could have one wish granted that would address hunger in Canada, what would it be?
That there be a Food Recovery Program in every community in Canada. There is lots of food – we just need to get it into people’s hands.   

What talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be able to play the piano. 

If you could tell your younger self some advice, what would it be?
Learn to type properly. 

Who are your heroes? Fictional or real life.
I am a pretty big fan of my wife. 

What is your idea of happiness?
Canoe camping with my family. 

What is your motto?
Do the best you can with what you got. 

What’s something quirky about you that others may not expect or know?
I have watched Pee Wee’s Big Adventure over 100 times. 

What’s your theme song?
“Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses.
