There is nothing ‘normal’ about the state of poverty and food insecurity in Canada. Food insecurity is at an all time high, and food bank usage has doubled since 2019. We cannot carry on thinking that people will be fine without significant intervention. The issue requires urgent and immediate action.
For years, Food Banks Canada has been advocating for government action that will help people to afford daily essentials like rent, food, and transport. Despite these repeated calls, not enough is being done for the millions who need help.

Too many people in Canada are struggling to afford essentials like rent and groceries; governments have not been doing enough to support those who are struggling.
The federal government must take immediate action to help people afford the essentials they need.
