Community Kitchens Program

Program goals: Recognizing the positive and lasting impact that Community Kitchen programs can have in communities large and small, Food Banks Canada offers this program to its Members and Affiliate Member food banks to develop, maintain, or expand their community kitchen programs.

Community kitchens provide a range of services including skill development in meal planning and preparation. They also function as a vital community network for people coming together to cook and learn. Some community kitchens also help people acquire skills that provide employment or volunteer opportunities working in kitchens.

Support: Thanks to the generous support of program sponsors Unilever and RBC Foundation, Food Banks Canada provides $160,000 in funding to support Community Kitchens in the following ways:

  • $80,000 to support the development, expansion and enhancement of a community kitchen program, including the establishment of a new community kitchen AND
  • $80,000 to support food banks in the development of Child and Youth Community Kitchen Programming
